After publishing my first ever self-portrait, and receiving wonderful responses from all of you, I thought I’d let you in on, let’s just say, another side of Ellie B.
Back in December, I turned 30(!). You always picture these milestone birthdays when you’re younger and figure they’re going to be unforgettable. Well, my 30th birthday came and went just as 29 and 28 did, anticlimactically.
I recently saw a meme that perfectly described how turning 30 feels, it read:
“People my age are so much older than me”
So, I was talking to two of my girl friends about an idea I had, and they were on board! What were we planning you ask? Well, I’ve been so blessed to document so many young children’s precious milestones, from newborn sessions to one year cake smashes, so I thought it was my turn: A thirtieth birthday cake smash! What could be better, really?
Here was the setup, fabulously styled by Sarah of The Rustic Maidel and 6″ custom smash cake by Mimi of Sweet Cakes by Mimi. Oh, and of course my awesome shirt that was a gift all the way from LA from my girl, Anit.
Please note: this cake smash represents not only me turning 30 but all of the wonderful and crazy things I’ve been blessed with, from my photography business to heaps of laundry. I’m pretty pumped to have these images to remember this time in my life, and you’d best believe I will be making an album for all of my guests to see.
Have a look, and hopefully a good laugh at my expense.
XO,
EB
Let me eat cake!

Behind the scenes:
I recruited Mimi to help take the photos for my session. I set up my studio lighting and my camera settings and showed Mimi how best to “shoot me,” and then I edited them. (Mimi, you did great!!)
And of course the baker gets to enjoy some of the fruits of her labor, as well:

Wow, Ellie, this is fantastic! You’re beautiful and adorable! Happy Birthday!!! I’m going to be 40 next year, so I have some ideas now…
Thank you Chaya!!
That is hilarious and awesome… and so fitting for your personality. I love it. I bet in 30 more years you’ll adore looking back at this session.
Thank you!
Love this!!! I especially like the last one with your mouth full and the fork in your hand. Priceless! Your wit and sense of humor come through loud and clear – important traits for a baby and family photographer.
Thank you so much! I think it’s important that my clients get to see some of my personality and my life outside of my business!
Thank you!
